East Aurora Bunny Hop 5K

ASS KICKER!

My wife tried to warn me. It's hilly. Oh come on, how bad could it be?!? BAD! I suck, I'm slow, I'm out of shape...I felt like I was going to die. I finished over 4 minutes slower than my best 5K time. Ugh...here are the ugly stats.

Mileage: 3.11
Time/Pace: 27:42/8:54 (Blah!)
Avg HR: 211 (YIKES!!!)

What to draw from this? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I'm not in anything close to good shape, yet, but I am working on it. Running, though I love it, sometimes just sucks!

  1. Don't be too hard on yourself! #1) It is a really hilly out-and-back course, so you're going over those hills twice; and #2) you just finished a marathon, and you've been training for the marathon distance. You need to give yourself a few weeks to try to "switch gears" and start running short to middle distance races at the speed you were completing them in by late last year. I know it will take me some time from my half in May to get to where I want to be for a 5K... so be patient, and hang in there. You'll be running 22 minutes or better by July, of not sooner!
