Water + Me = Fat Guy Flailing
Yeah...try as I do to swim, I'm just horrible at it. I go in to it every time, thinking, "just try to mimic any of the other decent swimmers in the pool." You know, the ones that can actually put their face in the water between breaths and don't look like each stroke might be their last. I really don't know what the problem is, but I definitely don't have any stroke/breath rhythm. After, barely making it 25 yds, I try again and give up. Oh well, I can do a decent breast stroke (go figure), so I stick with that, trying to look as though it is MY stroke and all other are inferior.
I need a swimming coach.
Badly!
Oh, I also biked for 30 minutes today.

You should see if there is a Masters swimming group near you. I joined about 2 years ago to learn how to swim (seriously, I could only doggie paddle before) as I was preparing for my first triathlon. It helped a lot, and although I don't do Tris right now, I continue to swim a couple times a week for three reasons: 1. The people rock; 2. It's great non-impact cardio cross-training for running; 3. It's kind of fun. It's also cheaper than a gym.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in Minnesota we have this race series sponsored by Team Ortho. Today they posted a great quote on Facebook that I think any runner could appreciate: "If you want to become the best runner you can be, start now. Don't spend the rest of your life wondering if you can do it." Love it!
Try a pull buoy at first.
